A strong education for our youth is the key to a vibrant economy; and Florida's economic future depends on its ability to train a high-wage high-tech workforce that can compete nationally as well as globally.

I believe we must work to empower parents and teachers to build a world-class education process that will increase our competitiveness on the world stage.

Stronger accountability and higher standards, along with necessary reforms to No Child Left Behind, are key to keeping the focus where it should be -- on the success of the student.

We must commit to building an education system that not only works for today's problems but focuses on Florida's long term competitiveness.

While in Tallahassee, I saw firsthand how the rising costs of higher education are hurting our ability to remain competitive. I will continue to work against restrictive federal mandates that would hurt Florida's university system.
