Murray Applauds Federal Investment in Twenty-Five Washington State Health Centers

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray applauded an announcement from Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell that twenty-five health centers across Washington state will receive a total of more than $7.4 million in Affordable Care Act funding to increase access to primary care.

The awards will create an estimated 104 jobs and enable centers to expand their hours and add new services, such as oral health, mental health, pharmacy, and vision. HHS estimates that as a result of the awards, Washington state health centers will be able to reach 40,005 new patients.

"Washington state's community health centers are helping families get primary care when and where they need it, and I'm so pleased that thanks to today's announcement, our centers will have more resources to improve health care for families throughout our state," said Senator Murray.

Recent data show that in addition to increasing access to primary care, health centers have played an important role in helping families get health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act.
