Letter to the House Democratic Caucus - Opposing House Republicans' Strategy to Kill the Export-Import Bank

Dear Democratic Colleague:

We wanted to be sure you saw this article, which explains why the Majority has chosen to extend the charter of the Export-Import Bank through June 30, 2015, in its version of the Continuing Resolution: to eventually kill it altogether.

The article says: "At first glance it might seem like a congressional deal to extend the Export-Import Bank's charter through June would be good news for the beleaguered institution, which supports American exports with loan guarantees and other credit assistance. In fact, it is the exact opposite. An extension to June could be a death sentence for the bank."

The Export-Import Bank remains an important tool for promoting U.S. exports and supporting 200,000 export-driven jobs in our country. A multi-year extension of its charter would end the uncertainty that is deterring businesses from entering new markets, and continues to be an important Make It In America priority. We oppose the Majority's cynical strategy to eliminate the Export-Import Bank and are committed to working with you to preserve and strengthen it for the long term with a multi-year authorization.
