Ro Khanna issued the following statement on the importance of celebrating the labor movement's role in building America's middle-class, and also recognizing the challenges facing working families today:
"America is the most dynamic and economically competitive nation on earth because of the perseverance, strength, and ingenuity of our working men and women. Labor Day is an important time for celebrating the many contributions that American workers have made to this country, and recognizing the labor movement's hard fought victories for the 8-hour workday, the minimum wage, safety standards, and most recently in the California legislature, a paid sick leave bill. But the middle-class has been shrinking over the last several decades and wages have stagnated -- leaving millions uncertain about their economic future. As Congressman, I will lead on raising the minimum wage nationwide, championing good paying American manufacturing jobs, and ensuring that our social compact stays strong by protecting programs like Social Security and Medicare."
