"Turner champions service men and women"

In Congress, Turner has been a leader in working to protect our military personnel and honoring them for their sacrifices. Turner voted to update the G.I. Bill, which increased health care benefits, housing allowances, insurance benefits and education opportunities for America's veterans. The G.I. Bill also allows veterans to transfer unused benefits to their immediate family. Additionally, Congressman Turner voted for the Wounded Warrior Assistance Act, a law aimed at improving VA medical care for veterans.

During the 110th Congress, Turner aided area veterans by working with regional leaders and the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA) to create a task force aimed at improving local veterans' health care. In addition to this, Congressman Turner has been a leader in finding answers to what occurred at the Dayton VA Medical Center dental scandal, which resulted in several hundred veterans possibly being exposed to blood borne illnesses. Turner has worked with GDAHA to form a task force to independently investigate the VA and its response to this failure to adhere to basic medical safety standards. As a result, Congressman Turner introduced legislation which would make it a crime for VA employees to willfully neglect safety procedures as set by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
