This week I spent time in North Texas visiting local businesses and meeting with young leaders in the 32nd Congressional District. Additionally, on Wednesday I hosted a Town Hall meeting at which I had the chance to listen to constituents as they discuss the important issues facing our nation today.
DART Orange Line Grand Opening Ceremony
This afternoon I participated in the grand opening ceremony of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) new Orange Line. The new extension of the Orange Line will go to the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and is part of an expansion that will increase the DART's rail network to cover 90 miles. I am very pleased that DART has continued to expand and increase public transportation options in the Dallas area in order to provide affordable and energy-efficient transportation to North Texans.
General Dynamics Meeting
On Wednesday I visited the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems facility in Garland. While I was there I met with the General Manager and learned about the products that General Dynamics provide the U.S. military for all levels of strategic and tactical operations. They shared with me their concerns regarding regulations that strain their business and hinder them from being able to plan their finances for the future. Businesses need laws that give them the certainty they need to grow their businesses, which is why I proudly support legislation that will permanently extend bonus depreciation to ensure that American companies can more easily plan for the future. I will continue to support these common sense solutions to ensure that businesses like General Dynamics will continue to thrive, create jobs, and serve as an integral part of the North Texas economy.
Texas Leadership Forum's Star Reception
On Monday I was delighted to recognize ten young men and women who achieved "Star Alumni" status for their exceptional work with the Texas Leadership Forum (TLF). These students served as mentors for the students who participated in this year's TLF program and immensely contributed to the development of their leadership skills. I commend these individuals on their accomplishments and acknowledge their efforts to positively influence the young leaders of our community.
Town Hall Meeting
On Wednesday, I held a Town Hall meeting where I had the opportunity to discuss my efforts to get Americans back to work, hold the Obama Administration accountable, and secure our borders. During the meeting I answered questions from constituents about border security, tax reform, the negative effects of ObamaCare, the unconstitutional acts of this Administration, and a myriad of other topics. I sincerely value the opinions of each of my constituents and always enjoy listening to the concerns of North Texans regarding issues that are impacting their families and businesses.
