STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN RICHARD E. NEAL

ON THE TERRI SCHIAVO CASE

(SPRINGFIELD) Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement today on the Terri Schiavo case:

"Like all Americans, my thoughts today are with the family of Terri Schiavo. Caring for a sick loved one is difficult under normal circumstances. But this tragic case has unfortunately placed the Schiavo family under intense scrutiny. I believe that we should respect the right of any family in this country to keep deeply personal matters private. And I question whether it is appropriate for Congress to be making decisions on any one individual's medical care. The appropriate jurisdiction for this important case is with the judicial system."
