Dear Assistant Secretary Darcy:

Thank you for the Army Corp of Engineers' continued involvement on the matter of utilizing the Ten Mile Creek Preserve Critical Project as a beneficial water storage facility. I am writing following the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) letter dated August 11th committing to full ownership and responsibility for the Ten Mile Creek Project. Given the SFWMD's guarantee to turn the project into a functional facility that can provide important water storage and treatment options needed for the area, I encourage the Army Corps to expeditiously act to allow the SFWMD to begin working toward optimally utilizing this project that has remained unused for too long in a region where water storage options are desperately needed.

The Ten Mile Creek Project has the potential to store more than 170 million gallons of water that would otherwise run into the St. Lucie Estuary and Indian River Lagoon contributing to the water quality crisis in the local waterways. Given the Army Corp's commitment to making sure the site provides a benefit for the environment and citizens of Florida, I encourage the Corps to cooperate as much as possible in seeing this project quickly transferred to the SFWMD so it may act to turn the project into a functional water storage and treatment facility.
