Schumer, Gillibrand, Maffei Announce Nearly $110,000 in Federal Funding for Tully Joint Fire District

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today announced that the Tully Joint Fire District has been awarded $109,725 in Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Tully Joint Fire District will use this grant to purchase 22 new self-contained breathing apparatus units.

"These much-needed funds will allow the Tully Fire Department to invest in the breathing equipment they need to do their jobs effectively and save lives," said Senator Schumer. "Our firefighters are our local heroes--they protect our residents and our property. These much-needed funds will allow those heroes to continue their important work of keeping the community safe."

"This is an important investment for the Tully Fire Department," said Senator Gillibrand, who wrote a letter to FEMA on behalf of the department's application. "When our first responders go into harm's way, we need to make sure they have the right equipment to save lives. The department will use this funding to purchase critical, life-saving breathing equipment that will help keep them, and the communities they serve, safe."

"The Tully Joint Fire District is committed to keeping our communities safe, and they need and deserve the best equipment possible to do their jobs most effectively," said Rep. Maffei, who wrote a letter of support to FEMA on behalf of the Tully Joint Fire District's grant application. "These much-needed self-contained breathing apparatus units will ensure hardworking Tully first responders have a safe, adequate, and reliable air supply when they are fighting fires."

The AFG program is a competitive grant program to help firefighters and other first responders enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and to obtain critically needed resources, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training to improve the capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.
