U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Wednesday that Arkansans will have the opportunity this year to determine the outcome of the direction of the country.

"You can determine the majority in the Senate, the majority in the House, and your government," the California Republican said during a campaign stop in Hot Springs in support of 4th Congressional District candidate Bruce Westerman at the Republican Party of Garland County headquarters.

"That is remarkable. This is really the epicenter of what November is going to be about. What direction do we want to go? I don't want a majority simply for the sake of having a majority. I want to accomplish something with it and tax reform will be one of the first things," McCarthy said.

Leading into McCarthy's talk, Westerman said he has heard a common message during his campaign throughout the 4th Congressional District.

"The message I've gotten from people, whether it's an overreaching EPA, Obamacare and other regulations, or not being able to protect our borders or other invasions in life, people want less hassle out of Washington, D.C., and more freedom to live their lives the way our founding fathers set up this country for people to be able to live their lives," he said.

McCarthy told the crowd of about 50 people that they know exactly what he knows, which is "Bruce is not going to change when he goes to Washington. He's going to change Washington
