Jeff is committed to a foreign policy that uses every tool available to make the United States safer and stronger, and knows that those tools are often not military.

Jeff was the President of the World Affairs Council of Oregon and worked as a national security analyst at the Pentagon and at the Congressional Budget Office, giving him a unique understanding of national security policy.

After 13 years and hundreds of billions of dollars spent on the war in Afghanistan, Jeff is pushing for the American people to have an opportunity to weigh in before we commit more resources and more American troops past the end of this year. He thinks it is long past time to bring our sons and daughters from the longest war in American history.

Jeff believes that our nation is stronger when our civil liberties are protected. He is appalled by the dragnet created by the National Security Agency, and is pushing for more transparency on the government surveillance in the U.S. Jeff has also been a leader in the Senate fighting against the extensions of expiring provisions of the Patriot Act and will keep fighting to protect the privacy of U.S. citizens.
