Cramer Delivers Keynote Address to Minot Job Corps Graduates

Today Congressman Kevin Cramer delivered the keynote address to graduates of the Quentin Burdick Job Corps Center in Minot.

"Because of their perseverance through unique and difficult challenges, the future holds endless possibilities for these graduates," said Cramer. "Their new talents are greatly needed by the growing North Dakota economy, and I have no doubt employers are already lining up to put them to work."

Job Corps is a career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, designed to teach young people the skills necessary to succeed in the job market. On Monday, Cramer attended a ribbon cutting at the Minot Center for the 50th Anniversary of the national Job Corps and the 20th Anniversary of Burdick Job Corps.

Congressman Cramer supported the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which was signed into law on July 22 after first passing the U.S. House of Representatives as the SKILLS Act in March 2013. The legislation strengthens the Job Corps program by instituting performance accountability indicators and a third party review every five years. It also consolidates federally funded workforce development programs and eliminates 15 duplicative and ineffective ones, promotes skills training for in-demand jobs, makes it easier for workers to access job training by eliminating unnecessary steps, and reduces paperwork for community and technical colleges accessing job training providers.
