McCaul Supports Energy Bill

Legislation Makes Commitment to Hydrogen and Alternative Fuels

(Washington D.C.)- Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) voted for passage of the most ambitious energy bill in decades today. The bipartisan measure passed the House by a vote of 249 to 183.

"This comprehensive energy bill addresses the high prices we're currently paying at the pump and our nation's need to find new and cleaner methods of energy," stated Congressman Michael McCaul. "The Energy Policy Act demonstrates America's dedication to finding alternative sources of fuel."

The Act supports Congressman McCaul's efforts as he continues working with the University of Texas system to improve and advance hydrogen fuel cell technology. The bill calls for $2 billion dollars to fund hydrogen research.

"Hydrogen, especially if derived from renewable sources like solar energy, can be an important contributor to the overall energy picture," said Dr. Allen J. Bard, the Norman Hackerman-Welch Regents Chair in Chemistry at The University of Texas at Austin. "More research is needed to improve the efficiency and lower the cost of both solar hydrogen generators and hydrogen fuel cells."
