Keating Announces Justice Assistance Grant for New Bedford

Today, Representative Bill Keating announced a total of $99,178 in Bureau of Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) for the City of New Bedford. This money will fund department overtime and the purchase of new equipment.

"It is important to recognize the many responsibilities that our local law enforcement personnel bear every day, which is why I have been an avid supporter of DoJ's JAG program while in Congress," said Rep. Keating. "I know I speak for many when I say that I am extremely grateful for the work our police officers do to keep our communities safe. This funding will help the New Bedford Police Department deliver vital services to our community by providing for department overtime and the purchase of new equipment, and it is my honor to do what I can to help those who work so hard to protect us."

"The City of New Bedford is pleased to have been selected to receive FY2014 federal grant funds through the Byrne Justice Assistance General Program in support of local law enforcement efforts to address crime. I am grateful to Congressman Keating for his leadership and advocacy for New Bedford's application. The New Bedford Police Department will utilize the funding to support critically important public safety services including targeted patrols and investigations as well for equipment and technology upgrades," said Mayor Jon Mitchell.
