Shelley Moore Capito Accepts Invitation to Debate

Televised debate to be held Oct. 7 in Charleston

West Virginia U.S. Senate candidate Shelley Moore Capito today accepted an invitation from the West Virginia Press Association, West Virginia Public Broadcasting and AARP West Virginia to participate in a live televised debate on Oct. 7 in Charleston.

"Voters deserve to hear from all the candidates running for the U.S. Senate this year," said Shelley Moore Capito. "I welcome the chance to debate the issues that matter most to West Virginians, and the opportunity to discuss my proven record of fighting for West Virginia families versus Natalie Tennant's record of defending President Obama and his job-killing, anti-coal policies."

Capito has requested that all four U.S. Senate candidates who have qualified for the ballot be able to participate in the debate. In both 2010 and 2012, all the qualified candidates participated in the one debate each year between the candidates for U.S. Senate.

Capito has always debated in her competitive races for Congress. In 2006 and 2008, she was the only incumbent candidate running for federal office to do so. Tennant on the other hand has never debated in a general election -- even refusing a debate challenge in her 2008 race for Secretary of State.

The Oct. 7 debate will take place at 7:00 pm. Additional details will be announced by the West Virginia Press Association.
