Dear Neighbors,
This week has been my first week back home as part of the August Work Period, and I have enjoyed participating in events around the 8th District.
Tuesday evening was the National Night Out Against Crime, in which I joined my neighbors in Rolling Meadows. The National Night Out promotes police-community connections, neighborhood friendships, and the overall involvement citizens have in crime prevention activities within communities all across the country.
Wednesday morning I visited Jesse Brown VA and attended their Mental Health Summit. After listening to presentations by the clinical psychology staff at Jesse Brown, I spoke about Veterans' mental health as well as the major role that Veterans' families share in the caretaking of our Veterans. The key to addressing mental health problems within the Veteran community is improving the accessibility and effectiveness of mental health care available to our returning heroes.
Additionally, my office hosted three Satellite Office Hours at Dundee, Mount Prospect, and Elk Grove Village. These office hours are a great opportunity for constituents to meet with a member of my staff who is a case worker in the the first and third Wednesdays of every month. If you have any questions or concerns with the federal government such as social security, Veterans' benefits or immigration issues, the next Satellite Office Hours would serve as a great place to directly seek help. You can find the schedule for these events on my website.
Also on Wednesday I held two Congress on Your Corner events, in Mount Prospect and Carpentersville. Constituents came to speak with me one-on-one about issues that they are having with a federal agency, other issues of concern, or to simply say hello. It was great to see everyone and a bug thank you to CVS and to Mayor Ritter for hosting the events.
I hope you are having a great week.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth
