89 WLS - Sen. Durbin Uses Governor's Day to Lay into Oberweis

News Article

By Bill Cameron

Democrats are partying in Springfield today at the state fair and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin was on the attack against his multi-millionaire Republican challenger State Senator Jim Oberweis.

Durbin is way out in front of challenger Oberweis in the polls, but in Springfield, the senator wasn't taking anything for granted. Durbin attacked Oberweis in front of a ballroom filled with the party faithful.

"Oberweis introduced a bill and said it should be illegal to give an increase in the minimum wage to anyone under the age of 26," Durbin said. "You think I'm making it up, don't ya? It's a fact. Well, who did he exclude. All college students. Virtually all of them. A lot of struggling moms, struggling to keep their families together. And incidentally, returning vets under the age of 26 trying to find any kind of job. Jim Oberweis said no increase for them."

Meantime Oberweis has been complaining that Durbin hasn't agreed to any debates yet.
