Demaio's "Fix Congress First" Plan Gains National Support

Bipartisan support for DeMaio's plan to cut Congressional perks and force Congress to live under the same rules as the people

San Diego - More than a year after Carl DeMaio unveiled his "Fix Congress First" Plan, Congressional candidates across the country are starting to endorse the entire package or component reforms contained within the proposal.

The latest endorsement came Friday from a candidate with a name similar to DeMaio. Carl Domino, who is the front-runner in Florida's 18th Congressional District race, announced his wholesale endorsement of DeMaio's plan last week.

Domino, one of six candidates in the Aug. 26 primary for District 18, acknowledges that his campaign got the idea from another Republican candidate with a similar name - Carl DeMaio, who's running for a congressional seat in the San Diego area and pitching his own "Fix Congress First" plan.

DeMaio's Fix Congress First plan will force Congress to live by the same laws as their constituents, including giving up the perks that Members of Congress receive on the backs of the taxpayers they serve.

"When I unveiled my Fix Congress First Plan, I realized it was ambitious in calling for wholesale change in how Congress operates and it would require a national campaign to get it passed," DeMaio noted. "I'm thrilled to see these ideas for cutting Congressional perks and imposing tough accountability on Congress are gaining national momentum," DeMaio said.

In a promising sign of bipartisan support, even Democratic candidates have talked about cutting their own perks and/or introducing similar legislation as well, including: Amanda Renteria (CA-21), Staci Appel (IA-3), Michael Wager (OH-14), Patrick Hays (AR-2), and Elisabeth Jensen (KY-6) -- to name a few.
