Issue Position

VISION: Government plays an important role in our lives, but that role should always be limited. We must be careful what powers we delegate to the government. Every year, more than 1,000 bills are considered in any given legislative session. When considering legislation I will always ask, "Is this a problem that is best solved by government intervention?" More often than not, the answer is "no".

HARD WORK: I will work diligently in my committee assignments to be a strong voice for limited government. I will assess legislation through my Bedrock Principles and work to determine that our efforts keep government limited.

CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT: After all, government is the protector, not the provider of our rights. As the Declaration of Independence states:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. -- That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…"

REAL SOLUTIONS: I will work to address the federal agendas and unfunded mandates that drain our state resources. We can and should manage our own state without breaking our budget. Less government means less taxes. Less taxation and regulation often result in more opportunities for progress and economic vitality.
