Rokita -- "The President Cannot Pick and Choose Which Parts of the Law he Enforces."

Statement

Rep. Todd Rokita released the following statement after voting to authorize Speaker John Boehner to initiate litigation for actions by the President or other members of his administration inconsistent with their duties as outlined in the Constitution.

"Whether it is his signature law, or a law passed by Republicans, the President cannot pick and choose which parts of a law he enforces. The Constitution says the president must faithfully execute the laws, and makes clear that only the Legislative Branch has the power to legislate. Every Member of Congress takes an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. It is our duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch, and this lawsuit is one avenue available to us," said Rokita

Rokita has been critical of not only the actions by the President as it relates to the implementation of ObamaCare, but the law itself. Rokita, joined by several of his colleagues, introduced the conservative alternative to ObamaCare, the American Health Care Reform Act last year. The bill now has 131 cosponsors and continues to gain support from Rokita's colleagues. Learn more about the bill here.

The Resolution passed by the House today, H.Res. 676, gives House Speaker John Boehner the authority to file a civil lawsuit against the Obama Administration in federal court. The lawsuit may seek appropriate relief, including injunctive relief, for the President's failure to enforce the law with respect to the implementation and requirements of ObamaCare. The resolution passed the House.
