In an effort to alleviate the burden Allegheny County property owners have faced with the Court-ordered reassessment, Senator Fontana has drafted legislation that enables the County to move away from an archaic and inequitable system and eliminate property reassessments, replacing them with a fairer system.
Senator Fontana has re-introduced legislation that would require large non-profits to pay real estate taxes based on the value of their land only. The first $200,000 of total land value is exempt to protect the small non-profits. The legislation seeks to fix the current imbalance created by large non-profits buying large parcels of valuable land and not paying property taxes, with individual homeowners bearing the burden.
