We must promote development locally that encourages small businesses and creates jobs, while at the same time preserves the character of our communities and enhances the quality of life. Our former state representative, Marty Walz, was deeply involved in this issue, and I intend to do the same.
I have worked hard to strike this balance for development projects for years when I have volunteered to serve a Board Member of the Beacon Hill Civic Association as the Clerk of its Zoning and Licensing Committee. I have a record of leadership working directly on issues of smart development -- creating the essential balance of support for local small businesses while maintaining the character of our neighborhoods and that quality of life that we value so much. As a member of the Zoning Committee, I worked hard to find the balance between businesses that want to open and grow, and the neighbors who want to preserve the character of their community.
