House Unanimously Approves Reps. Schneider, Meadows' Bill Toughening Hezbollah Sanctions

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act, legislation authored by Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) and Rep. Mark Meadows (NC-11). The bill would impose severe economic sanctions on Hezbollah, an internationally-recognized terrorist organization that continues to pose a great threat to U.S. interests and those of our close allies.

"The Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act is a leap forward in combating the threat of global terrorism financing by providing the Administration with vital tools to go after financial institutions and satellite providers that deliver material support and propaganda tools to Hezbollah," said Schneider. "This important legislation will result in fewer resources falling into the hands of Hezbollah terrorists who have shown great resilience in attacking Western targets, in addition to their destabilizing efforts in the Middle East."

The Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act takes a comprehensive approach to addressing the ongoing global threat posed by Hezbollah and its affiliates. The legislation broadens financial sector sanctions, restricting Hezbollah's ability to use its illegal financial network to support global terrorist activities. Additionally, the bill targets Hezbollah's media appendage, al-Manar, which helps to distribute propaganda and recruitment messages to an international audience.

The House of Representatives unanimously passed the bipartisan bill. It will now be referred to the Senate for further consideration.
