Statement

Date: July 29, 2014

Dear Friend,

Recently, I was proud to announce that my office has helped the residents of California's 52nd Congressional District secure more than $1 million, so far, in benefits they are rightfully owed. I also recently hosted a telephone town hall with thousands of San Diegans, where we talked about a range of issues and I shared my plan for job creation and economic growth. You can read the plan on my website, here.

Cutting through red tape = $1 million for constituents

One of the most important jobs I have as a Member of Congress is to help my constituents break through the bureaucratic log-jam of government red tape to get the answers they're looking for and the benefits they're due. I get calls every day from people who are waiting for a federal agency to process an application, a claim, or an appeal, and they're frustrated by what can be a slow and complicated process. My office is here to help. I'm happy to report that we've been able to help hundreds of San Diegans secure more than $1.1 million in benefits -- that's more than $750,000 in Veterans Affairs benefits, $130,000 from the Social Security Administration, and $130,000 from the Internal Revenue Service.

Growing the San Diego Economy Together

San Diego is a hub for innovation, scientific research, our military, and tourism, which will continue to drive our local economy and job growth. Given our leadership in these industries, our region is primed for success.

Hearing from Constituents Directly

Recently, I hosted a telephone town hall to talk with San Diegans like you about my jobs plan and ways to foster our region's economy. I enjoyed talking with those who participated and encourage everyone to let me know your thoughts on the plan. Let my office know if you would like to be included in future calls.

Stay in Touch

I hope you'll stay connected with what I am working on and tell me what's important to you. Like my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, add my Google + page to your circles, or visit my website for more information.

One of the most important jobs I have in Congress is providing a number of constituent services. As always if you have any questions, are having trouble with a federal agency, or want to weigh in on a particular issue, feel free to email me or call my offices at 202-225-0508 or 858-455-5550.
