Senator Pryor thinks taxpayers should bail out private insurance companies that lose money because of Obamacare.
Early in the campaign, Senator Pryor's allies at Senate Majority PAC (run by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid) took a shot at Tom Cotton for supposedly being too cozy with insurance companies. Of course, we all know that ended up being a huge swing and a miss that drew 4 Pinocchios from The Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler.
While Senator Pryor is busy connecting imaginary dots on insurance companies, he's actually the one doing huge favors for big insurance companies. Senator Pryor voted for Obamacare, which mandates that all Americans, for the first time in our nation's history, purchase a government-approved product from a private company.
But that's just the beginning. Senator Pryor supports the risk corridor bailout provision of Obamacare, which is designed to limit the risk of private insurance companies that sell Obamacare-approved insurance. Yes, you heard that right. If private insurance companies lose money selling health insurance under Obamacare, Senator Pryor thinks taxpayers should help cover their losses. Now who's in the hip pocket of big insurance companies?
Tom Cotton announced his opposition to the risk corridor bailout provision under Obamacare several months ago, and has called on Senator Pryor to help remove that provision from Obamacare. Senator Pryor has thus far refused to budge, not even an inch, on his support for the Obamacare bailouts.
Today, Tom Cotton renewed his call for Senator Pryor to join him in opposing the Obamacare bailout for insurance companies: "Senator Pryor thought it was a good idea to bailout Wall Street and Detroit, as well as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac," said Cotton. "So we shouldn't be surprised that he thinks Arkansas taxpayers should help foot the bill when big insurance companies lose money selling Obamacare insurance."
