With a current total federal debt of nearly $17.5 trillion, including $5 trillion borrowed from government accounts such as Social Security, we have a crisis on our hands if we don't act soon. Republicans in Congress are proposing a plan that would balance the budget within ten years. That's a start. But what we really need is a Constitutional Balanced Budget Amendment. As your representative in Congress, I will insist that we live within our means and respect every penny of the public's money.
