Rep. Schneider Statement on Hamas' Refusal to Accept Ceasefire

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement condemning Hamas' refusal to accept a ceasefire agreement initiated by Egypt and accepted by Israel.

"It's regrettable that Hamas refused an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire deal with Israel, which Israel not only accepted but also observed for six hours while Hamas continued indiscriminately firing rockets, threatening the lives of Israelis and Palestinians alike.

"The deaths of civilians in Gaza and reports today of the death of an Israeli civilian, killed by a Hamas' mortar, further illustrates the need for the international community to unequivocally condemn the Hamas' rocket attacks.

"The prospect for returned quiet in the region rests solely on Hamas ending its indiscriminate launching of rockets into Israel. No nation would, nor should accept such attacks without firm response, and I strongly support efforts for Israel to eliminate weapons stockpiles within the Gaza strip and for Israel defend herself against direct threats to her citizens."

A member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Schneider is a leader in working to strengthen the U.S.-Israel partnership and enacting sanctions against terrorist organizations.
