Statement

Dear Neighbors,

In Washington, I participated in a press conference for the new legislative initiative from the House Democrats called Middle Class First. This initiative includes proposals that would offer tax breaks for companies that create jobs in America, raise the minimum wage to $10.10, give equal pay and sick leave for women and help ease student loan debt. All of these things will give working families the opportunity to pursue the American dream.

I then joined Paul Lisnek on WGN's Politics Tonight and talked about the latest VA investigation, my support for Veteran suicide prevention and manufacturing in our District.

Additionally, Congress reached an agreement to fund the highway trust fund and keep 112,000 projects moving and protect 700,000 Americans jobs. While I hoped we could come to a long term extension, I am encouraged that members on both sides of the aisle could agree to a short term fix for this problem. Our highway infrastructure is so important to our economy in Illinois, and I am pleased that we will be able to continue to fund these crucial projects.

My office hosted satellite office hours this week on Wednesday, in Elgin, Hanover Park, and Addison. These events are an opportunity for residents to share their questions, comments and concerns with my staff and get assistance with any problems they are having.

Sincerely,

Representative Duckworth
