Peters Statement on Short-Term Extension for Highway Funding

Statement

Date: July 15, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Transportation

Today, U.S. Representative Gary Peters (MI-14) released the following statement on the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014, which temporarily extends funding to highway and transit programs covered by the Highway and Transit Trust Fund through May 2015:

"The Highway Trust Fund is dangerously close to running out of money, putting critical Michigan road, transit and infrastructure projects, and the jobs they create, in jeopardy. While I am glad the House was able to pass a short-term extension to prevent a lapse in funding, stop gap measures like this fail to provide the necessary certainty to workers, employers and investors to drive meaningful job creation and economic growth. Congress needs to pass a long-term transportation plan that will help states and municipalities invest in local infrastructure to connect communities and grow our economy."
