Republican congressional hopeful Mariannette Miller-Meeks got a boost Tuesday from her party, with the GOP's political arm in the U.S. House elevating her to the highest level in its candidate recruitment program.

Miller-Meeks is running against incumbent Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa. On Tuesday, the National Republican Congressional Committee designated her a "young gun," the highest level in a program it formed to support party nominees.

Miller-Meeks, an ophthalmologist, is making her third run at Loebsack in the 2nd District. In a statement, Greg Walden, a Republican congressman from Oregon and chairman of the NRCC, said that she has "met a series of rigorous goals that will put her in a position to win on Election Day."

Miller-Meeks was one of 11 Republicans, including Rod Blum and David Young, the Republican nominees in Iowa's 1st and 3rd district races, respectively, who received the "young gun" designation Tuesday.
