Anthony Brown Delivers Remarks to American Legion Convention

This morning, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown addressed the American Legion's 96th Annual Department Convention in Ocean City. In his remarks to attendees, Brown discussed his Compact with Maryland Veterans, which he released in November, and laid out his plans to improve Veterans' services in Maryland. A 30-year U.S. Army Veteran, Brown is one of the nation's highest-ranking elected officials to have served a tour of duty in Iraq.

"Over my 30 years as a soldier in the United States Army, I led men and women. I served with them, cared for them, trained them, went to war with them, and did everything to ensure that we could complete our mission and come home to the nation that we loved," said Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown. "Now we must take care of our veterans at home. That's why last November, Ken Ulman and I rolled out our Compact with Veterans -- our plan to ensure that each of the 460,000 Maryland Veterans will find our state a better place to live, work and raise their families."

The Brown-Ulman Compact with Maryland Veterans will:

1. Exempt Military Retirement Income from Taxation for the Majority of Veterans;
2. Establish a VetConnect Hiring Challenge Program;
3. Extend Bridge Loans for Disability Claims;
4. Create a Maryland Veterans Treatment Court;
5. Expand Rental Housing Works for our Veterans.
