Representative Jared Polis (CO-02) today made the following statement after the bipartisan, bicameral Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 415 to 6:

"I am thrilled that the House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, sending it to the President's desk for his signature. This bipartisan, bicameral compromise makes critical changes to our workforce development system to better align it with the skills our workers need to thrive in a 21st century economy.

"In particular, I am pleased to see that many aspects of my Women WIN Jobs Act are included in the underlying bill. The legislation will help women enter and succeed in high-wage, non-traditional careers, reducing the wage gap and increasing pay equity. WIOA also recognizes the critical need for adult education and literacy activities in our workforce development system to help adult learners and recent immigrants succeed.

"This legislation is a model for how bipartisan compromises can help improve, modernize, and strengthen our education and workforce development systems. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue this trend and grow jobs in Colorado and across the country."
