Horsford Votes To Protect 6,000 Nevada Transportation Infrastructure Jobs

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) voted for H.R. 5021, the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014. The bill provides critical funding for the Highway and Transit Trust Fund, which is required to prevent the Highway Account from going bankrupt in August, and also reauthorizes Surface Transportation programs, which were set to expire on September 30, 2014.

"I am glad we were able to pass this critical legislation and avert a crisis would have killed more than 6,000 jobs in Nevada," Horsford said. "However, we need a long-term revenue fix for the Highway Trust Fund that supports bold investments in infrastructure that the business community wants, states and local governments need, and our nation's economy requires. Investments in 21st century infrastructure will create good-paying jobs in Nevada and spur economic growth across the state. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a funding solution that provides Nevada the stability it needs for future projects, such as I-11."

In total, more 100,000 transportation projects would have been delayed, and as many as 700,000 construction jobs would be put at risk with the expiration of the Highway Trust Fund.

The bill passed by a vote of 367-55.
