Following Good Primary Showing, Congressman Garamendi Thanks Voters and Volunteers, Lays Out His Priorities as a Representative

Statement

This evening, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) thanked voters in California's 3rd District after he secured a good showing in today's primary election. With 38.9% of precincts reporting, Congressman Garamendi currently has a lead in the Congressional election, 54% to 46%.

Garamendi issued the following statement:

"Voters in the 3rd District sent a clear message: they want a Congressman focused on ending the gridlock in Washington, a Congressman with a proven bipartisan track record of working with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to move America forward, a Congressman focused on the needs of the 3rd District.

"There are many issues that unite this district. We all want to Make It In America and end the offshoring of American jobs. We all want to stop the twin tunnels, save the Delta, and protect water rights. We all want to protect Medicare and Social Security. We all want to ensure veterans have access to the best services possible. We all want to invest in and improve education at all levels. We all want equal pay for equal work. We all want to keep our air and water clean. We all want to shape an America where everyone, no matter their background, can achieve their American Dream.

"From Day 1, I've been fighting for these shared values. From Day 1, I've represented this district intently, preventing shortsighted cuts to the vital missions at Beale and Travis Air Force bases, working to make the Farm Bill work for Northern California farmers and conservation priorities, and securing desperately needed funding for lifesaving levees.

"Americans are tired of the extremism, tired of the rhetoric, tired of the political games. I'm eager to find common ground solutions to the many challenges we face, and I've done all I can to be a bipartisan consensus builder in Congress while staying true to my values. The American people believe in good faith compromise and reasoned debate; so do I.

"Moving forward through November, my amazing grassroots team of volunteers and I will continue delivering this message to 3rd District voters. To those who voted for me and to those who volunteered on my campaign, thank you so much. To those who voted for another candidate, thank you for participating in our democracy and please keep an open mind and open ear in the months ahead. To those who didn't vote at all, let's talk."
