Issue Position

In recent years, Ohioans have lost trust in politicians from both parties in Columbus and Washington. Ethical scandals, unfulfilled campaign promises, and bureaucracies that duplicate effort and waste taxpayer dollars have caused many to lose faith in their government and elected officials. Mike Dovilla takes his role of public servant seriously and believes government should be accountable for every tax dollar spent.

Mike Dovilla is a decorated Naval officer who lives by the values of honor, courage and commitment. In the legislature, Dovilla has carried these same values to restore our state government's integrity and supported legislation aimed at streamlining government operations, making them more accountable and more efficient. In light of the corruption scandal that rocked Cuyahoga County, Mike Dovilla sponsored House Bill 323, legislation that would correct a gap in Ohio law by adding extortion and perjury to the list of felonies for which public officials convicted of such crimes would forfeit their public retirement system benefits.

Dovilla voted for House Bill 2, requiring performance audits for state agencies to ensure government is running more efficiently and effectively. Dovilla also voted for Senate Bill 2, which established the Common Sense Initiative (CSI), putting safeguards in place to prevent burdensome government regulations on Ohio's businesses from going into effect. Getting government out of the way and allowing Ohio's job creators to operate in a friendlier business climate is a priority on which Mike Dovilla will remain focused. In addition, Dovilla supported House Bill 66, legislation that establishes a fraud reporting system so those who know of government fraud or waste have a mechanism to report and stop the waste of taxpayer dollars. By making these important structural reforms, we are improving how state government delivers services to Ohioans.
