Daines Welcomes Reinstatement of House Travel Disclosure Rule

At the urging of Representative Steve Daines and several other Members of Congress, the House Ethics Committee announced today that they are reversing their decision to drop a rule requiring House members to report privately-funded travel on their annual financial-disclosure forms.

"The removal of the Congressional annual travel disclosure requirement and the loss of accountability that would have resulted were extremely troublesome. The American people deserve and expect transparency from their elected officials, and I am glad the House Ethics Committee has heeded my call to reverse this senseless decision," Daines said.

Daines had announced plans to help introduce legislation that would restore the annual disclosure requirement to increase transparency and accountability after the National Journal reported Monday that the House Ethics Committee quietly undid the rule.
