Issue Position

While some policies are best handled at the state level, many are best left up to local officials to decide based on each community's needs and norms. On the Beloit City Council, I have watched as politicians in Madison decided they knew best and overturned some of our local policies. City residency requirements were thrown out, and strict limits on local funding were enacted even as the local share of state funding was decreased. The rights of local communities to decide how their own land is used, and what environmental protections they need, have also been threatened. As your representative, I will listen to the communities in the 45th district and vote to leave local policies up to local governments whenever possible. I will fight for adequate funding to support basic community needs such as public safety, quality schools, transportation and road maintenance, public parks and facilities, and community development.
