Congressman Pallone was elected to Congress in 1988 on a platform to put a stop to ocean dumping in 12 sites off of the Jersey Shore and to clean up the state's toxic waste sites. The 12 dumping sites were closed, and Pallone has continued to fight to protect clean water and air as a senior member of the two primary committees with jurisdiction over these issues: the Committees on Energy and Commerce and Natural Resources.

Pallone authored the Brownfields Revitalization and Environmental Restoration Act of 2001, which became law in 2002 and significantly increased federal funding for cleaning up of contaminated sites and keeping our communities safer and healthier.

A staunch opponent of offshore drilling, this year, Pallone led the House effort to oppose the Obama Administration's plan to begin seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic Ocean, the first step to offshore drilling.
