Gov. Rounds Appoints Olson to Game, Fish and Parks Commission

Gov. Mike Rounds announced today the appointment of Jeffrey G. Olson, Rapid City, to the Game, Fish and Parks Commission.

Olson fills one of the positions that were previously held by Ken Barker, Belle Fourche, and John Kranz, Mitchell.

"I am pleased that Jeff Olson has agreed to serve on the Game, Fish and Parks Commission," said Gov. Rounds. "Jeff's experience, background and demonstrated interest in working through the issues affecting the management of our natural resources will make him a strong addition to the Game, Fish and Parks Commission."

Jeff Olson has held leadership roles as the President of the Black Hills Sportsmen, President of the local Safari Club International Chapter and serves on the Black Hills National Forest Advisory Board representing sportsmen's interest.

"Jeff was instrumental in starting the South Dakota Sportsmen Against Hunger Program in the West River area and has been a strong supporter and advisor on the GFP Department Walk-In programs," said Secretary Cooper. "He will be a strong voice for all our west river sportsmen and their issues."

He is also a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Black Hills Conservation Initiative, Mule Deer Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Isaac Walton League, SD Wildlife Federation, Pheasants Forever, North American Fishing Club, Black Hills Fly Fishers, Black Hills Anglers, the Nature Conservancy, North American Hunting Club and the Federation of North American Wild Sheep.

Dr. Olson is a fifth generation dentist and is a member of the Black Hills District Dental Society and the American Dental Association. He and his wife, Lanette, have two children, and are active in community organizations including the baseball, soccer and hockey programs.
