Pelosi Statement on Potential Long Island Rail Road Strike

Statement

Date: July 9, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the prospect of a strike on the Long Island Rail Road during contract negotiations between the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and railway unions:

"Avoiding a strike on the Long Island Rail Road should be a priority for all levels of government. It is my hope that all parties involved will be able reach a fair resolution, and that we can avoid the disruption of a strike that would have a negative impact on commuters.

"If there is a strike, there is no reason to believe that Congress would act to resolve the situation given House Republicans' continuing dysfunction and obstruction. I hope both parties return to the table and work together to avoid a strike before the July 20 deadline."
