The Governor reorganized the delivery of health care

Governor Brownback rejected $31.5 million in federal funds for insurance exchange
KANCARE is the name bestowed upon Medicaid for Kansans

The state has signed three KANCARE contracts

The companies are Amerigroup Kansas, Sunflower State Health Plan, and United Health Care of the Midwest
These companies will replace state employees who handled the management of Medicaid
The administration believes it can save $800 million with this method
Medicaid is not profitable, and insurance companies general want to turn a profit, so one might fear services will be drastically reduced
The Developmentally Disabled community granted a one-year exemption from this HMO plan

Coverage will remain in the hands of the state because of specific needs of the members
Allows time for the "kinks " to begin being working out
