Durbin Pushes To Find A Cure

Press Release

Date: June 9, 2014

There are thousands of doctors who are eager to do more research to help end deadly diseases, but a lot of times, that work can't be done without funding for research.

Senator Dick Durbin stopped at the SIU Med School this morning to talk about the American Cures Act. The proposed legislation would provide that much needed funding to agencies like the National Institute of Health and centers for disease control.

"We spent a lot of money in Washington," Durbin said. "Over $1.3 trillion this year in out budget. And we can find room for increasing by $1.8 billion medical research."
