In Chicago, Senator Dick Durbin - a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee - is talking about developments in Ukraine.
Ukraine and its western allies are calling Sunday's referendum a violation of international law. In Chicago, Durbin called what Vladimir Putin is up to "outrageous."
"God forbid Putin ever invades a NATO ally country of the United States because we have given our written guarantee that the invasion of a NATO ally is the invasion of America and we are going to stand by "em," Durbin said. "This man has to be stopped. I think the sanctions have to be toughened so that he can feel the pain and stop this aggression"
Poland is among the nations we would be obligated to defend if Putin invades.
