Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement regarding Speaker John Boehner's announcement that the House will not vote on any comprehensive immigration reform bill this year:
"As I started a meeting with my Immigration Advisory Council regarding the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, Speaker Boehner announced that an immigration reform bill would not receive a vote in the House this year.
"Speaker Boehner is the only person standing in the way of passing comprehensive immigration reform. We have the votes to pass a bill in the House; we just need to hold a vote. Yet, the Speaker and Tea Party Republicans continue to obstruct any action.
"Over a year ago, the Senate passed a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill that would secure our borders, reduce the deficit, and keep families together. Unfortunately, the fringe of the House GOP has hijacked the Speaker's gavel and held this critical legislation hostage.
"This is a monumental failure of leadership in the House. President Obama is right to direct Attorney General Holder and Secretary Johnson to review what can be done within the authority of the Administration. Families cannot wait any longer for solutions to come from Congress. We have wasted too much time that others do not have to spare."
