Horsford: 33,800 Nevadans Cut Off From Unemployment Insurance By End Of June

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) issued the following statement in response to a new House Ways and Means Committee report from Democrats that shows more than 3.1 million Americans, including 33,800 Nevadans, will have been cut off from their unemployment insurance by the end of June:

"Nearly 34,000 Nevadans will be without unemployment insurance by the end of the month. That number will continue to grow unless Congress acts. The only reason we have not been able to extend this vital lifeline to millions of hard-working Americans is that Speaker John Boehner will not allow us to vote.

"Senate Majority Leader Reid and Senator Heller are working hard on legislation in the Senate to help unemployed Nevadans. Their efforts are invaluable, and we cannot let the House GOP continue to ignore the voices of thousands of Nevadans. Every day I have constituents write to my office and share stories of being cut off from unemployment insurance. Their families are in tremendous pain. They are our friends and neighbors, and House Republicans are turning their backs on them.

"I have not forgotten about my constituents and the 33,800 Nevadans who relied on this economic bridge to put gas in their car to look for jobs, put food on the table for their family, and to pay rent to be able to stay in their home. They need our help, and I will continue to fight alongside House Democrats until we can extend unemployment insurance."
