The debate over the tax cut in Washington is turning politics upside down. Today a liberal Democrat, Charles Schumer, defended the conservative Federal Reserve chairman from talk said to be coming from the White House that President Bush may not reappoint the chairman when his terms expires in June 2004.
Senator CHARLES SCHUMER (Democrat, New York): So today, along with Senator Corzine, I'll be introducing a sense of the Senate resolution supporting the independence and objectivity of the Fed and of keeping Chairman Greenspan in as long as he wants to.
