Issue Position

Having grown up in Washington and then worked in dozens of countries around the world, including serving as a State Department Officer in Iraq, I know first-hand what freedom means.

I believe strongly in the sanctity of our Constitution and the importance of our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. Protecting our liberties is one of my most important duties as a legislator.

As your Senator, I've been a strong advocate of private property rights, voting to limit the use of eminent domain, and helped lead a bi-partisan effort to limit and regulate the use of drones and un-manned aerial vehicles by government agencies without first obtaining a warrant.

I believe strongly in transparency and openness in government as bedrock values for our democracy.

As your Senator, I've consistently encouraged my constituents to participate in my "Shadow Your Senator" program that allows those interested to spend a day with me in Olympia attending committee hearings and meetings to see how the people's government works.
