Issue Position: Ensuring Access to Health Care

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

As your state Senator, I have done all I can to prevent the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) from disrupting our health care system.Unfortunately, last year many Washingtonians lost their existing insurance due to Obamacare-related cancellations.

Many health care providers now find themselves suffocating under new layers of red tape, more insurance forms and yet more government regulation.

A "one size fits all" health care system is not what we need in Eastern Washington. I'll continue to work to mitigate the damage done by this federal intrusion into our hospitals and doctors' offices, and work to ensure that patients are able to choose the doctors they want and treatments they need.

We do need healthcare reforms: some immediate steps our state should take are to expand patient access to coverage by allowing health insurance to be purchased across state lines, increasing opportunities for Health Savings Accounts, and incentivizing wellness programs that promote healthy living.
