Ayotte Statement Regarding Supreme Court Ruling on Recess Appointments

Statement

Date: June 26, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte released the following statement regarding today's unanimous Supreme Court ruling that the president's recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board were unconstitutional:

"Today's Supreme Court ruling affirms what we already knew: the President's decision to circumvent the Senate confirmation process and make unilateral appointments was unconstitutional. The Senate, not the president, decides when it is in session, and the Court's ruling today affirms the Senate's important constitutional advice and consent role and its authority to determine its own rules."
