As Governor and as Senator, Mark Warner has pushed for a portfolio approach to energy. Only by maintaining and improving traditional energy sources, while encouraging development of new forms of clean energy, can Virginia and the nation secure its energy future.

All of the Above Approach

Sen. Warner understands that it will take a combination of cleaner fossil fuels, solar, wind, bio-fuels, nuclear energy and next generation battery technologies to meet our future energy needs. This is why he supports expanding responsible offshore energy production, development of the Keystone XL pipeline, innovations in cleaner coal technology energy, as well as further development of cleaner, renewable energy projects across the Commonwealth.

Developing all of these energy resources will help create domestic manufacturing jobs, strengthen Virginia's economy, and be a positive step forward for the Commonwealth. It also advances efforts to better harness renewable energy sources while reducing U.S. reliance on imported oil.

Investment in Clean Energy

Sen. Warner has taken a lead role in urging the federal government to continue making investments in Virginia's clean energy economy. This includes a $4 million grant to spur the development of offshore wind energy, tax provisions to make wind and solar projects more affordable, and Sen. Warner's efforts to encourage the U.S. military to continue developing alternative fuel sources.

Lowering Costs through Greater Productivity

As chairman of the nonpartisan Alliance to Save Energy, Sen. Warner is focused on promoting new ways to make our current energy usage more efficient. By doing more with less, we can dramatically increase the longevity of our current energy supply, reduce costs for consumers, and protect our environment. Mark's "race to the top" initiative calls for competitive grants to encourage the doubling of U.S. energy productivity by 2030 by promoting innovative new ways for states to use their existing energy supplies more wisely.
